Harlech Rewards App

Harlech Foodservice, a supplier to restaurants and the hospitality sector, wanted to reward loyal customers and encourage increased ordering. I designed a tiered rewards app that turned everyday purchasing into a motivating experience for chefs and restaurant owners. From loyalty points to discounts, the app aimed to drive spend while reinforcing customer retention.

Challenge

Incentivising Busy Customers

Harlech wanted to boost customer loyalty and increase order value but their existing ordering experience lacked incentive. With no clear rewards mechanism in place, there was little motivation for customers to spend more or return regularly.

The challenge was to design an app that made rewards feel exciting and easy to understand, without disrupting the busy workflows of chefs and hospitality staff. The app needed to be transparent, engaging, and feel rewarding while also aligning with Harlech’s broader business goals.

Approach

Bringing the Rewards Journey to Life

Clarifying the Rewards Framework

The first step was working closely with the client to fully understand the loyalty structure, including the five reward tiers and the Growth Boost incentive. This allowed me to map out how rewards would unlock and what users needed to see at each stage.

Designing a Clear Onboarding Experience

It was important that new users quickly understood how the app worked. I designed an onboarding flow that introduced the tiered system and explained how to progress through each level, using clear language and illustrative visuals.

Introducing the app: A simple 3-step onboarding flow to explain how rewards work.

Visualising Progress & Incentivising Growth

I designed clear progress bars with incremental spend markers, giving users a strong sense of progression through each reward tier. These visual cues made the reward structure feel more achievable and motivating. To support the Growth Boost incentive, I included a simple graph comparing this year’s spend with last year’s, helping users quickly gauge how close they were to unlocking bonus discounts.

Balancing UX with Technical Feasibility

Throughout the project, I worked closely with the development team to ensure every idea, from onboarding to data visualisation, was technically achievable and could be implemented without compromising the user experience.
